atHome A-List Awards

Period Architecture is proud to announce that two of the firm’s designs have been named finalists in the 2026 atHome A-List Awards. The Pennsylvania Provincial has been selected as a finalist in the “Traditional Architecture (Greater than 7,000 Square Feet)” category, while the great room at the Rumson Retreat has been recognized in the “Living Space” category. Winners will be announced in September at the annual celebration honoring exceptional design in Fairfield County and its surrounding regions.

“To have two very different designs recognized as finalists is an incredible honor,” expressed Co-Founder & President Joseph Mackin, Jr. “While each is tailored to its homeowners’ desires and unique landscape, both reflect our belief that rich, dynamic places emerge at the intersection of beauty, proportion, and lived experience. We are grateful to atHome Magazine for this recognition.”

Designed to feel as though it has evolved organically over generations, the Pennsylvania Provincial blends the character of a stone farmhouse with the formality of a French manor on the interior. Its form tells a story of gradual expansion, with wings extending from a strong central mass, evoking the charm of a home that has been lovingly added onto over time. Balancing its thoughtful proportioning with pastoral authenticity, this design creates an architectural narrative that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in place.

“The design for this new home demonstrates how traditional architecture can honor multiple design influences without compromising authenticity,” remarked Principal & Marketing Director Jessica Fogle. “Every decision, from the massing and material palette to the interior detailing, was carefully considered to create a home that feels deeply rooted, highly personal, and lasting in character.”

Set within a serene four-acre coastal property, the Rumson Retreat reinterprets the enduring stone bank barns of the Northeast through a modern-day architectural lens. The barn was envisioned as a contemporary living retreat that could support both large-scale entertaining and everyday family life while remaining deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. At the heart of the barn, the cathedral-ceiling living space was designed to foster connection and shared experiences. The great room serves as the central place to gather, anchored by a monumental stone fireplace and framed by floor-to-ceiling views of the tennis court and gardens beyond.

“The Rumson Retreat illustrates how historic architectural forms can be thoughtfully adapted for the way families gather today,” articulated Greenwich-based Associate Principal Meredith Evans. “The great room design embraces the warmth, craftsmanship, and scale of traditional barns while also introducing the openness and innovation that contemporary family life seeks.”

The atHome A-List Awards recognize excellence across architecture, interior design, landscape design, and construction throughout Connecticut and beyond. Period Architecture is honored to have both the Pennsylvania Provincial and Rumson Retreat recognized among this year’s distinguished finalists and looks forward to celebrating alongside the region’s talented design community in the fall.
